Application Process

To be eligible for the enrollment in the CEM AEMT Emergency Medical Technician Program the applicant must be 18 years of age at the start of class.  The student must also be a current PA credentialed EMT.

In accordance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania EMS training guidelines, the student must possess the sensory acuity and the physical ability to perform all of the diagnostic, therapeutic, and communication functions of an AEMT.  Please contact EMS West for a Functional Job Description of the Emergency Medical Technician and a detailed list of the sensory and physical requirements for the Emergency Medical Technician course.

To apply to the program, the candidate must complete the application and submit it by mail or fax to the Center for Emergency Medicine, or email to Antoinette Zavalydriga at  Zavalydrigaal@upmc.edu.  Once your application is submitted you will be notified within ten business days of enrollment into the class.    Any applications received less than two weeks prior to the start of class will not be considered.

If offered a seat candidates will then be given an enrollment package.  The enrollment package outlines the steps necessary to place a despot to secure a seat, and the necessary steps for background check, clearances and other steps to be cleared for the start of clinical/field rotations.

Applications must also include at least ONE letter of evaluation.  The evaluation form found here must be used.
